PSC Members

The PSC comprises a Chairman and at least five and not more than 14 other members. Before taking office, PSC Members swear to give their “counsel and advice” in any matters referred to the PSC, “freely and without fear or favour, affection or ill-will”. They are involved in, and help to discharge, all the PSC’s key functions.

Who is eligible to be a PSC Member?

PSC Members hail from a diverse range of backgrounds. To ensure the PSC’s independence and neutrality, the constitution disqualifies the following persons from appointment to the PSC:

  • A public officer
  • An elected or nominated Member of Parliament
  • A member of any political association
  • A member of a trade union or any body or association afflicted to a trade union

Members appointed to the PSC are not allowed to hold any positions in the Public Service after their terms of office.

Who appoints PSC Members?

Members are appointed by the President, in consultation with the Prime Minister.
