The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Scholarship was introduced in 1971 to attract top talent into the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). It is awarded to outstanding candidates who see honour in serving and defending the country through a military career.

The scholarship is tenable for undergraduate studies at both overseas and local universities.

To prepare scholarship holders for a career in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), there are a series of developmental programmes during their years of study, including attachments to local and foreign military units. Scholarship holders will also have the option of pursuing a fully-sponsored Master's degree, if they fulfil the requirements.

Career progression:

Scholarship holders will be given command appointments where they will lead men - regulars and national servicemen - through tough training and challenging operations, to safeguard our peace and security. They will also take on staff appointments, where they will play the role of force planners, military strategists or defence diplomats for the SAF. There will also be opportunities to attend academic and military courses, both locally and overseas. The Public Service Leadership Programme (PSLP) is not applicable to them.
