2002 PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION SCHOLARSHIPS AWARD CEREMONY

BACKGROUND FACTSHEET

Background

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is holding its 3 Scholarships Award Ceremony on Saturday 20 July 2002. at 2pm at Istana. This will be the first time the event is held at the Istana since its inauguration in 2000.

The Guest of Honour is DPM BG (NS) Lee Hsien Loong. He will deliver the keynote address and present the awards to the scholars. The programme for the event is attached at Annex A

The 2002 PSC Overseas Merit Scholars (OMS) and Local-Overseas Merit Scholars (L-OMS) will receive their awards from DPM Lee. Also in attendance at the ceremony are the 2002 Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholars (SAFOS) and the Singapore Police Force Overseas Scholars (SPFOS). The profile of these scholars is shown in Annex B

The L-OMS scholars will be pursuing their undergraduate degrees in the local universities. Those who do well in their first degree, will also be sponsored for a Masters degree in an overseas university. The SAFOS, SPFOS and OMS scholars will proceed to overseas universities in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. There will be one OMS proceeding to Germany this year.
